A violent cult clash between two rival cult groups in Agboul
community of Makurdi, claimed lives of seven persons on Monday, July 28,
 the Benue State.
According to Leadership, at least seven persons were killed, some
residents were injured, about 10 houses were razed down and property
worth millions of naira were destroyed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ezeala, confirmed the
incident to newsmen and revealed that clash occurred between the red
skin and black skin cult groups. He also provided two versions of events
that could have sparked the clash.
The first theory is the casual disagreement between the groups and
the second one is a love affair between a girlfriend of one of the
members of the cult, who unadvisedly agreed to the relationship with
another man from a rival group. Two traditional rulers were also
macheted as a result.
The Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and that of the operation Zenda,
have been deployed to the Agboul metropolis, known for its frequent cult
and communal clashes, to maintain law and order.
